A chunky orchid growing medium containing bark chips, buffered coco chunks and sphagnum moss for excellent airflow, drainage and moisture balance.

Availability: 20 in stock

Orchid Mix is a specialised chunky growing medium designed to provide the exceptional airflow and drainage required by epiphytic orchids. Made from bark chips, buffered coco chunks and a light addition of sphagnum moss, this Orchid Mix creates an open structure around the roots while retaining enough moisture to prevent them from drying too quickly.

Unlike conventional potting soil, orchid growing media should remain loose and well aerated. Many commonly grown orchids naturally grow attached to trees rather than in soil, with their roots exposed to high levels of air circulation. A chunky growing medium helps recreate these conditions when orchids are grown in containers.

    • Contains bark chips, buffered coco chunks and sphagnum moss
    • Provides excellent airflow around orchid roots

How to use

Use when potting or repotting suitable orchids. Carefully remove the old growing medium from around the roots and trim away any dead, hollow or rotting roots using clean tools.

Position the orchid in a well-draining orchid pot and gently work the fresh mix around the roots without packing it down tightly. The open spaces within the mix are important for maintaining airflow.

Water thoroughly after repotting and allow excess water to drain completely. Allow the mix to begin drying between waterings rather than keeping it constantly wet.

Product highlights

Bark chips provide structure and create essential air spaces around the root system.
Buffered coco chunks contribute moisture retention while maintaining the chunky structure of the mix.
A small amount of sphagnum moss helps retain moisture without turning the growing medium into a dense or waterlogged substrate.
The combination creates a balanced environment for healthy orchid root development while allowing excess water to drain freely.
