Fine Coco Coir is a lightweight, moisture-retentive growing medium made from finely processed coconut fibre. Its soft, fine texture makes it particularly useful for improving moisture retention and creating an even growing environment within indoor plant mixes. Fine Coco Coir can be combined with coarser materials to achieve the balance of moisture, drainage and aeration required by different plants.
Unlike chunky coco, fine coir has a much smaller particle size and therefore retains more moisture. It is particularly useful as a component in general indoor plant mixes, propagation media and customised growing substrates where additional moisture retention is required.
Quick highlights
-
- Fine-textured coconut fibre growing medium
- Excellent moisture-retention properties
- Lightweight and easy to work with
- Useful for creating customised indoor plant mixes
- Suitable for propagation and young plants
- Can be combined with perlite, bark and other growing media
How to use
Fine Coco Coir is best used as a component of a balanced growing medium rather than automatically used on its own.
Combine it with materials such as perlite and bark chips to increase drainage and aeration according to the requirements of the plant being grown.
When used for propagation, fine coco provides an evenly moist environment that can support developing roots. Avoid keeping the medium excessively wet, particularly when propagating plants susceptible to root or stem rot.
Because fine coco retains significantly more moisture than chunky coco, watering frequency should always be adjusted according to the plant, container and other components in the growing mix.
