Bark Chips (Chunky Growing Medium) 2L

R30,00

Chunky bark growing medium ideal for improving drainage, root aeration and structure in aroid, orchid and customised indoor plant mixes.

Availability: 20 in stock

Bark Chips are a coarse, natural growing medium used to improve drainage, structure and root aeration in specialist indoor plant mixes. Their chunky texture creates valuable air spaces throughout the growing medium, allowing oxygen to circulate around the root system while helping prevent mixes from becoming dense and compacted.

Bark Chips are particularly useful for aroids, orchids and other plants that naturally prefer an open, well-aerated root environment. They can be combined with components such as coco coir, chunky coco, perlite and sphagnum moss to create customised growing media suited to individual plant requirements.

Quick highlights

    • Coarse, chunky growing medium
    • Improves drainage and root aeration
    • Helps prevent growing media from compacting
    • Adds structure to customised plant mixes
    • Ideal for aroids and epiphytic plants
    • Excellent component for orchid growing media

How to use

Bark Chips are primarily used as a component within specialist growing mixes. Combine them with other materials according to the drainage, aeration and moisture requirements of the plant.

For aroids such as Philodendron, Monstera and Anthurium, bark chips help create the loose, chunky structure these plants prefer around their roots.

For epiphytic orchids, bark can form a significant part of the growing medium, providing structural support while maintaining essential airflow around the roots.

Bark Chips can also be added to general indoor plant mixes when additional drainage and aeration are required. Avoid compressing the mix tightly when potting, as the spaces between the components are important for maintaining airflow.

Product highlights

The coarse particle size creates air pockets throughout the growing medium, helping oxygen reach plant roots.
Bark Chips add physical structure to growing mixes and help prevent finer components from compacting over time.
They work particularly well alongside moisture-retentive materials such as coco coir, allowing a customised mix to achieve a better balance between moisture retention, drainage and aeration.
Bark Chips are a versatile staple for anyone who prefers to create growing media according to the individual requirements of their indoor plants.
